Historical Information

Introduced in 1915. Bermuda was the first British colony to fly the defaced red ensign. The fly is charged with the arms, granted on 4 October 1910. The British lion supports a shield portraying the wreck of the Sea Venture, which in 1609 carried the first settlers and came to grief on a reef.
