Historical Information

 Adopted 7 December 1943. The red symbolizes sacrifices in the struggle for independence, and the white stands for purity and peace. The cedar is a symbol of holiness, eternity and peace, and since the 19th century it has been the symbol of the Maronite Christian community in Lebanon.
