Historical Information

Adopted 31 March 1993, in use from 20 December 1999. The five stars, taken from the flag of China, recall that Macau is an inseparable part of China. The stylized lotus flower stands for the people, and its three petals represent the three islands of Macao. The bridge and the waves are emblematic of the natural environment surrounding Macao.
